Famous Fenway Park Features
  • Boston, Massachusetts - The Green MonsterThe Green Monster. The Green Monster is the famous, 37-foot left field wall at Fenway Park. The Green Monster is the highest left field wall in major league baseball. In spite of the intimidating name, the Green Monster was originally an area covered with advertisements, and it wasn’t actually painted green until 1947.
  • The Lone Red Seat. The lone red seat is located in the right field bleachers to mark where the longest home run hit inside the original Fenway Park landed. This home run by Ted Williams was measured at 502 feet and would have flown up to 535 feet if it hadn't hit Joseph Boucher in the head to wake him from a nap. Boucher said that he was really a Yankees fan, but he joked that he would take it as a sign from the baseball gods that he should repent and become a Red Sox fan instead. The Boston Globe’s famous sports page headline the next day was, “Bullseye! Ted Williams Knocks Sense into Yankees Fan.”
  • Pesky's Pole. Pesky's Pole is the name of the right field foul line pole which stands just 302 feet from home plate, the shortest length in major league baseball. The pole got its name from shortstop Johnny Pesky, who hit his six Fenway Park home runs around the pole, including a two-run, game winning homer during the Red Sox 1946 opening day game.
  • Duffy's Cliff. A unique feature of the original Fenway Park, Duffy’s Cliff was a 15-degree, grass incline in front of the park’s left field wall that extended from the left-field foul pole to the flagpole at center field. From 1912 to 1933, left field players had to play the area running uphill, and Red Sox star left fielder, Duffy Lewis, became a master at the skill. The area was flattened during the 1934 ballpark remodel, making Duffy’s Cliff a treasured piece of original Fenway Park lore.
  • The EMC Club (formerly known as the 600 Club and the .406 Club). Check out these private suites, including 610 glass-enclosed stadium club seats above the home plate bandstand, which became the infamous 600 Club. The 600 Club was later renamed the .406 Club in honor of Ted Williams' 1941 batting average. The .406 club was completely rebuilt in 2004, transforming it into two separate clubs – the upscale EMC Club and the more accessible State Street Pavilion.  [Top]
Fenway Park Seating & Amenities. With seating for just 39,928 baseball fans, Fenway Park is the third smallest ballpark in Major League Baseball. However, due to the popularity of the Red Sox, standing room only areas are available to fans on the park’s roof, the Pavilion, the Green Monster, and in other areas. Fenway Park’s original historic building and field has been modernized over the years to include luxury boxes and suites, an expanded Pavilion, a restaurant at center field, a picnic area outside the park, a brand new Red Sox Hall of Fame, event and banquet facilities, and a wide range of concessions within the gates.  [Top]
